devincu Posted August 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 18, 2015 I don't usually don't collect PTO groupings, but I couldn't pass this one up because of all the wonderful nose art and it didn't because it didn't cost me anything accept a drive into the country. I got a call from a lady who said she found this stuff among her mothers belongings (who had just passed away) but she had know idea where it came from or who the vet is? I guess I have my work cut out for me, but it looks like he was with the VII Fighter Command stationed in Iwo Jima during WWII. I just thought I would share some of the wonderful "Nose Art". The grouping is mostly paper items which also include some Japanese bring backs and 11 original WWII Rising Sun Flag decals for the sides of aircraft representing confirmed kills. There is also a nice photo of the vet in uniform, which shows a set of DI's which I would like to know which unit they are for if someone knows?? Thanks and enjoy! JDK Posted August 18, 2015 Share #19 Posted August 18, 2015 Awesome find! Great photos and the decals appear to be kill flags that were handed out to fighter pilots for use on aircraft marking enemy aircraft shot down. They are getting much tougher to find and usually are in high demand.

Waltz41 Posted September 4, 2015 Share #23 Posted September 4, 2015 That is an awesome grouping! I have a soft spot for 7th FC items! The document you showed, the signature there is that of Ernest "Mickey" Moore, who was the commander of the 7th FC. I've never seen that document before, it is very neat. Love the nose art too, and the kill flags. Nice find!
