MWalsh Posted August 16, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 16, 2015 I recently came across this patch. It was being sewn on a new made field jacket that a son was putting together as a wearable tribute jacket for his Vietnam veteran father. I saw it and had never before heard of a Power Lines unit so I took some pics of the patch and thought I would post them for everyone to see, since the patch is Asian made and likely made in very, very small numbers. I would be curious to hear how many have ever seen this patch before. Enjoy.

River Patrol Posted August 16, 2015 Share #5 Posted August 16, 2015 I have seen this patch before as Vietnamese hand made (Cheap Charlie style) and machine embroidered, seperate and as a pocket hanger. Not a common patch but they can be found.
Lt1 Posted October 9, 2016 Share #6 Posted October 9, 2016 I don't know the early history of the patch, but all members of the 714 Eng Det (PL) wore them while I was a member of the unit in 1970-1971. The unit was stationed at Long Binh during that time period. CTD [email protected]

alale11 Posted June 28, 2017 Share #18 Posted June 28, 2017 vett1946, Must likely we were together at the 714th, I was there in Lai-khe until I think July or August of '69 when our operation was turned over to PS&E and the unit I think it relocated, I was then transferred back to my parent company in Binh-Thuy. My name is Al Aleman. Would much like to to know if we served together.
vett1946 Posted April 29, 2018 Share #19 Posted April 29, 2018 Al, You're name sounds very familiar but it's been a few years. We were in Lai Khe until around March, 1970. I remember the 1969 Bob Hope Christmas show in Lai Khe where the Detachment's sign was mounted on one of the telephone poles. I was with the 714th from June, 1969 through July, 1970 at Lai Khe and Long Binh. Rich DeGeorge

LtCarlson Posted May 26, 2018 Share #21 Posted May 26, 2018 The 714th Engineer PL patches were created when the unit was TDY to Bear Cat from Lai Khe. When we came back to Lai Khe there. was a big ruckus because only the MP's could wear unit patches t that time. I was with the unit from its formation at Belvoir in Jan 68 to Feb 69. CO_1970-1971 Posted November 3, 2021 Share #22 Posted November 3, 2021 This being the 50th anniversary of the completion of so many projects by the 714th Engr Det (PL) while located at Long Binh, the included photographs may be of interest to any surviving unit members.
