Bodes Posted August 15, 2015 Share #4 Posted August 15, 2015 I'm not sure I like the scabbard.....The finish looks odd and there looks like fresh rust where the prongs are.....The US pinned their prongs on their scabbards...Perhaps the French did it differently(?).....With the exception of the '8' on the 1918 part of the handle inscription, I don't see any thing right off hand with the knife itself....Bodes
militariaone Posted August 16, 2015 Share #5 Posted August 16, 2015 Greetings QM42,All is original, however the blade's fit in the handle seems a little wonky. The shoulders of the blade should fit without the gap between it and the handle. Try flipping the blade around to its opposite side to see if it fits any better within the handle.http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/196382-m1918-mk-i-trench-knife-comparing-originals-to-your-suspect-knife-thread/ Regards, Lance
25a1eeda Posted August 17, 2015 Share #6 Posted August 17, 2015 I bought one like it several years ago, but I was told mine was a reproduction.
militariaone Posted August 17, 2015 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2015 I bought one like it several years ago, but I was told mine was a reproduction. Greetings, I am unawares of anyone reproducing (ever) the Au Lions' model with the ridges on the top of the handle, if you owned that specific type, then your knife (or at least the handle) was original. trenchbuff Posted August 17, 2015 Share #8 Posted August 17, 2015 That is a great, original knife. Just got an identical Au Lion in a WW2 MP's group. The MP who used mine ground the guard down on each side which is something you frequently see on the ones used during WW2. Thanks for posting a great piece. Too Much WW1 Militaria Posted August 17, 2015 Share #9 Posted August 17, 2015 Yep, nothing wrong with it. Looks just like mine, which came as part of a group, directly from the vet. John
