KASTAUFFER Posted August 7, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 7, 2015 This is a group that was saved from being broken up. I bought the paperwork on Ebay and a friend of mine found the medals at a flea market in SOCAL along with the recipient's sons medals from Vietnam. LST 372 saw a lot of action in WWII participating in the landings at Sicily, Salerno, and Normandy. The Capt. of the ship was present for all 3 actions. KASTAUFFER Posted August 7, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted August 7, 2015 There is a lot more paperwork with the group, but I think the pieces I photographed do a good job of telling the story of this man and his ship . Lets never forget the "Day of Days ".

JDK Posted August 8, 2015 Share #15 Posted August 8, 2015 Very nice group and a great save keeping it together. It's a great feeling to keep the history of a veteran together when you get the rare chance. I had to save a group to a Hellcat Pilot recently from being scattered to the wind. Vernpelk Posted November 30, 2015 Share #21 Posted November 30, 2015 My dad was Vernal A. Pelkey, he was a baker on the ship. Wish I had some of his photos from the war, but my brother has them. The one photo I tried to attach said the file was too big. I will look for another soon to try.
