Good Evening,

Im doing research for a friend of mine on a sword he recently purchased. He has no idea what it is and I have limited knowledge. I was thinking that it was a model 1840 Cavalry sword "old Wrist breaker" but Im unsure. The only marking it has is a chicken/rooster but besides that nothing. Can anyone help me? All comments are welcome! Thank you. - Nick K

That rooster mark (if I remember correctly) was used by a German firm on a sword that looks like our M1840 "Wristbreaker" many of which were imported into the primarily Northern States during the CW. You should be able to find info on line. Richard

Neat old Civil War Saber. I concur with Richard. Model 1840 so called wrist-breaker. Made by the Weyersburg Brothers of Soligen Germany. Imported during the Civil War. Value $450-550 in that condition. Nice condition and an above average example. Don't clean it or polish it. Great out-of -the-woodwork find. Thanks for sharing.
