I've seen some great Korean War era helmets posted here in the past. I've come across a few but they seem to be pretty scarce. Here is a 2nd Division helmet from my collection. It would be great to see some more examples of Korean War era helmets. Please feel free to post what you have.

The 2nd ID helmet is awesome, one of the nicer KW helmets I've seen in a while.

 I love all of these, thanks for sharing.  It's nice to see evidence of the leadership bar used on the 2d ID helmet.  I love the white border on the 7th patch, too.  Thanks for sharing these wonderful helmets!

I don't know much about Korean War painted helmets but why do some still have the rear Follow Me officer's bar? Wasn't that only used during WW2 and in the ETO only?

This is why I'm glad that Gecko posted this one.  Leadership bars or some variation were used often in Korea.  I am thinking the majority may have been half or 2/3 the size of the WWII style, and often times were used without any insignia on the front.  I'm guessing since this 2d ID helmet looks like a parade or garrison helmet that the bar is bigger for show.  It could very well be a combat helmet, though!  You never know what you'll see.  I've found some photos of elaborately painted helmets like this on the front.  Most of them I see used in garrison duty, though.

I did not know that (about the follow-me stripes/Leadership bars) being used after WWII.

You learn something every day.

The first time I heard of it was when I was looking at WWII photos with my grandfather.  I asked him if they painted their helmets in Korea and he said oh yea, of course.  Officers had a small vertical rectangle about 2 inches tall and NCOs had a small horizontal mark of the same size.  Small enough to be pretty inconspicuous but enough so that the guys behind them could see.  Some guys put rank on the front of their helmet and he never understood why because he figured it would make an easier target.  In garrison when on guard duty they would give him a helmet painted with divisional and regimental insignia, usually shiny/glossy.  This is just his story so the small 2" bars are unique to his unit (3/31) but I have seen similar marks in photos.

I will see what I can dig up...

Thanks for the replies, guys. I've seen Officer and NCO bars used through The Korean War and the mid 1950's based on other helmets I have seen posted on the forum. This helmet may be Korean War, but could also date from the mid- late 1950's.  It came off a US 6th Fleet flagship.

Very nice helmets.  I really have a soft spot for post WWII helmets with "painted" markings.  As you said in the first post, I think they are much harder to find.

I finally collected examples of painted helmets in original Korean War photos.  Many have watermarks for the source so I didn't actually save the address.

7th Division - June 1953  Looks like an artillery unit.  Note the wear of the BoS ascot!
