Jumpin Jack Posted July 4, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2015 I have a grouping belonging to one man. In this grouping there is a S/Sgt sleeve rating with enlisted Inf branch disc, and a 1st Lt bar with Inf crossed rifles. Included are two sets of dog tags, both named to John A. Baker. One set has his serial number as L7045908 while the other is 02000697. I assume the first is his enlisted number, while the latter is his officer number. What does the "L" stand for. Included also is a 45th SSI and a 103rd SSI. Among his decorations is a Purple Heart showing he was wounded on 17 Dec 44 in France, and a Bronze Star. Any help would be greatly appreciated. hardheaded Posted July 4, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2015 That's weird, I think L is WAC.
hardheaded Posted July 4, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2015 I think this is the guy. The "L" should be a 1. I couldn't delete the second (double) picture posting.
Jumpin Jack Posted July 5, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted July 5, 2015 I really appreciate the help. I had never heard of a "L" leading off a serial number. Good to know it was a typeo. He seems to have had a very interesting stint in the Army. Thanks again! Jack
