Jutter Posted July 1, 2015 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2015 So i got this book in the mail yesterday "G.I. Collectors Guide: US Army European Theater of Operations - Volume II" by Henry-Paul Enjames It seems like a really informative book, lots of good pictures and descriptions. Especially a lot of information about the smaller things eg. cigarettes, rations, and so on.... Some gear and equipment. However, what i seem to miss is a more extensive chapter about the types of uniforms worn by the army. More in-depth information on uniforms.... all the different types, variations and makers etc. There are some pictures of a M41 jacket, some overcoats and officer uniforms. What i actually expected was more about HBT's the M43 and so on..... they aren't even mentioned. So basically my question is : Are these covered in Volume I? I thought Volume II was more of an improved version of the volume I, or is it really an addition? If so, I'm going to get Volume I also. Can anyone who also got volume I shed some light on this for me? Or perhaps there are books available that are more focussed on the uniforms, how to differentiate them, what to look for etc.? Johan Willaert Posted July 1, 2015 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2015 Volume II is indeed an addition to volume I listing more variations of articles described in Vol I and/or new items not covered in the first book... IMO opnion, both are must haves if you collect US WW2 ETO gear As a side note, the same author has just finished a 'third' tome called GI stories in which he relates personal and/or unit histories by means of small groupings... Jeeper704 Posted July 1, 2015 Share #3 Posted July 1, 2015 I agree with Johan; both are a "must have".Erwin
Rakkasan187 Posted July 1, 2015 Share #4 Posted July 1, 2015 Both are Excellent Books.. Another good book for WW2 uniforms is Shelby Stanton's USA Army Uniforms of World War Two. He has a series of 4 books about US Army uniforms Leigh
willysmb44 Posted July 1, 2015 Share #5 Posted July 1, 2015 I agree with Johan; both are a "must have". Yeah, what he said. As for the Stanton books mentioned earlier, I don't think they're all that great a reference anymore but were moderately decently when they were printed. Lots of much better stuff has come out since then.
Jutter Posted July 2, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted July 2, 2015 Thank you very much for the replies, so I guess i'll be getting volume I also. Looked into the books mentioned, they to seem to be a bit dated, B&W pictures and so on. Issue is that it's very difficult to make a reasonable assessment on the books without really looking in them.... the preview on amazone doesn't give me a real "good" feeling about them. Just taking a chance and buying them isn't really my thing.... could make a costly misbuy..... That's what I find so great about this forum, a lot of you more experienced collectors probably allready have a lot of these books on your shelve... so that's why i'm asking so many qusestions on what to get and what not to get.... Any advise on other books concerning US army uniforms or other must-haves is more then welcome. As a side-note, i'm probably getting the book "Helmets of the ETO" as i've heard and read that that is a good one. So Volume I and the helmets-book for now. Chap15 Posted July 10, 2015 Share #11 Posted July 10, 2015 I just received Enjames third book. I will write a review shortly. Initial impression. Very Good. Regarding VOL 1 & 2, both are very good. In VOL 2, I thought it was funny the chaplain section came after the artifacts for the prevention of VD.
strawberry 9 Posted July 10, 2015 Share #12 Posted July 10, 2015 I have both. Volume I covers uniforms more than II. Both are definitely worth having on your shelf.
