Powerhouse Posted June 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2015 Hello, This picture was for sale on e-bay, several days ago. It was part of a grouping of WWII photos without indication of the unit. It seems to have been taken in the ETO. Nothing special, but a helmet caught my attention. Note that the soldier on the right seems to have an armband with the same letters.... Someone have an idea? Jeeper704 Posted June 25, 2015 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2015 Sort of civilian work force, end of WWII and later? Erwin
Burning Hazard Posted June 25, 2015 Share #3 Posted June 25, 2015 The person with the marked helmet is holding what appears to be a German K98 (?) rifle; I'm guessing it might be either partisans, a put-together local police force or some sort of guards that were outfitted with US clothing... Jeeper704 Posted June 25, 2015 Share #4 Posted June 25, 2015 Labor Supervision unit members were of foreign nationalities and had US uniforms + captured weapons. They guarded German PoWs, etc. How I know? My grandfather was in such a unit and had a Mauser rifle. He was Belgian and wore the US uniform (I have his photo to prove it). So I think you have look in that direction. Certainly NOT partisans or "put-together" local police. Erwin
Jeeper704 Posted June 25, 2015 Share #5 Posted June 25, 2015 Btw, it is clear that both helmet and rifle belonged to the Sergeant. He wears the hat of the civilian next to him. Erwin
atb Posted June 25, 2015 Share #6 Posted June 25, 2015 "Camp Guard Force," maybe. A PW camp or displaced persons camp.

Erwin Erwin, Out of curiosity, if you knew they were Labor supervision members through your grandfather then why in your earlier post you took a guess by saying "Sort of civilian work force, end of WWII and later?" Jeeper704 Posted June 27, 2015 Share #9 Posted June 27, 2015 Because at that time there were several civilian work forces throughout Germany, Austria, etc. And because the photo of my grandfather shows him wearing a different brassard. He was in 1216th Labor Supervision Company. Erwin
