ArtyScout Posted June 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2015 Hello all! I started painting this old figure from Warriors collection. My friend gave it to me along with that MG42 Machine Gunner that I posted (sorry). So I took a couple of pics to show my progress. I hope you like them and remember that all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. BTW I put my snipers aside for now but they are up next once I finish this figure. Thank you all for looking. Enjoy. Semper Fi. Manny

ArtyScout Posted June 28, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted June 28, 2015 Well I finally did the field jacket and web gear with BAR magazine pouches. I used an Archer Dry Transfer to put the U.S. on the canteen and I received my Archer Eyeball decals in the mail. It's starting to come together. Just some more tweaking and I'll put everything together. Here are some more pics of my progress. Enjoy and thanks for looking. Semper Fi. Old Marine Posted June 28, 2015 Share #6 Posted June 28, 2015 That's a nice figure and it looks like it's coming along well. I look forward to seeing him finished. Nice work.
Joe55 Posted June 28, 2015 Share #7 Posted June 28, 2015 This guy is looking pretty good Manny! I've used those Archer decals before, they sure come in handy. I'll be following your progress. Joe
ArtyScout Posted June 29, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted June 29, 2015 Thanks OM and Joe. I hope to have him finished this week. This will be my first time using the eyeball decals from Archer. I'll post pics when I finish him and then after I set him up in a vignette. Semper Fi. Manny
B229 Posted June 29, 2015 Share #9 Posted June 29, 2015 Nicely done. Just an observation, but the figure appears to have one of the treated paper gas detection brassards on his right shoulder. Is it supposed to be during the Normandy Invasion?
ArtyScout Posted June 29, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted June 29, 2015 Hey B229, you are absolutely correct, that IS a gas detection brassard, but by the look of the folds I would figure that it was the fabric type instead of paper one. I'm doing the research on the proper color of it. It seems that they were a mustard color and primarily that was the gas that it was supposed to detect. BTW according to the box picture and title this BAR gunner is at the Normandy invasion. Semper Fi. Manny
ArtyScout Posted July 1, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted July 1, 2015 Hello all, I'm back with some more pics of updates. I had to scratch build the liner straps, helmet straps, rifle slings and the hard part was the sling swivels on the BAR and the helmet strap loops. I stenciled on the Ranger helmet ID, but I have to tweak it and BTW I colored the gas brassard a mustard color but I forgot to photograph it. Tomorrow I go for the eyes and finish the hands. All critiques, comments and recommendations are greatly appreciated. Enjoy and thanks for looking. Semper Fi. Manny

ArtyScout Posted July 6, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted July 6, 2015 Wunderbar, can't wait to see the finished gunner. Iris decal...I'm learning something new every day! Well these decals come in different sizes depending on the scale of the figure. I learned how to do it manually but I would need certain tool to do it. So I figured I'd try the decals. I'm a little nervous since I've never used these eye decals, so this is the last thing to do besides tweak the helmet and add it and the hands and rifle to complete the figure. I know that the eyes can make or break this figure. I took a little break for the 4th of July holiday, but I was able to glue things together. I'm posting some pics and I'm showing the painted gas brassard. I hope to finish him this week then work on the base for his vignette. Thanks for looking and as always all comments and critiques are greatly appreciated. Semper Fi. Manny
cutiger83 Posted July 6, 2015 Share #16 Posted July 6, 2015 This is looking very nice! Do you find this scale easier or harder than smaller scales? It seems like it would be easier because of the larger parts but a lot less forgiving on mistakes. ...Kat
ArtyScout Posted July 7, 2015 Author Share #17 Posted July 7, 2015 This is looking very nice! Do you find this scale easier or harder than smaller scales? It seems like it would be easier because of the larger parts but a lot less forgiving on mistakes. ...Kat You are so right on it being easier to paint than the smaller scales, but believe it or not if you make mistakes I find it easier to rectify them. What I found out is that sometimes you have to scratchbuild certain things that go with a figure or vehicle on the larger scales that you usually see built in or omitted in the smaller ones. So on that note I want to post my finished BAR Gunner. I was able to get the eyes on eventhough they were a pain in the butt and put it all together. I'll be starting on the base soon. So enjoy and thank you for looking and as always all critiques and comments are greatly appreciated. Semper Fi. Manny

ArtyScout Posted July 8, 2015 Author Share #20 Posted July 8, 2015 Great work.... The BAR seems to have the post WW2-KW era gas regulator... Looks great! Thanks a bunch for posting your progress. How do the eyes look up close? ...Kat Johan, I can't answer that question since this figure is supposed to be at Normandy in 1944 and you say it has a post WWII gas regulator. Kat, I can honestly say that the right eye looks better than the left eye considering that this was my first time using eye decals, but at least he doesn't look cross eyed. ArtyScout Posted July 9, 2015 Author Share #22 Posted July 9, 2015 You know Johan upon close examination it does look like a post WWII regulator. Well that faux pas we have to give to the sculptor. Semper Fi. Manny
mpguy80/08 Posted July 9, 2015 Share #23 Posted July 9, 2015 Just a heads up on the rank stripes too... The yellow on green stripes didn't come in until 1956... During WWII they were grey embroidered stripes on dark blue Rayon. Or grey wool on Dark blue wool. Hope that helps.
ArtyScout Posted July 10, 2015 Author Share #24 Posted July 10, 2015 Just a heads up on the rank stripes too... The yellow on green stripes didn't come in until 1956... During WWII they were grey embroidered stripes on dark blue Rayon. Or grey wool on Dark blue wool. Hope that helps. OK thanks for that info. That background IS blue, not green. I should have paid more attention to the rank stripes but I was preoccupied with the Rangers patch. I'll remember that for the next time. Semper Fi. ArtyScout Posted July 18, 2015 Author Share #25 Posted July 18, 2015 Hey mpguy, Now you know I couldn't leave my BAR gunner with the wrong stripe colors. So I was able to correct them. Semper Fi. Manny
