I picked this up today, and when I slide it out, the chrome blade caught me off guard. I have never seen a chrome blade bayonet before. I dug a little online and see some are chrome for parades and such. Anyone seen one like this before? Age? Was told vietnam era.

This M7 is from the first contract to the military circa 1964. Chrome bayonets are often used for color guard units or VFW members etc. I learned on this forum that the "chevron" i.e. "V" on the pommel indicates it's early heritage.

I have a MILPAR M7 (with the chevron) that was used by the 1st Cav Divisional Honor Guard and it is completely chromed.....every piece of metal including the screws are chromed. The Commanding General of the 1st Cav had all of these chromed M7s fitted with the molded white handles that GEN CUT had made for a special M7 they produced. The Armorer was not sure how these white handles were purchased or how they had been gotten, but he had to replace the regular black handles on all of the Divisional Honor Guard M7s with the white handles. Other chrome blade M7s I have seen were supposedly for Honor Guards at VFW posts, Police Departments and some military units. Others have been chromed by individuals as presentation pieces for friends, military buddies, and shadow boxes.

Thanks for the information. It appears this was solid chrome, even the screws. But the previous owner didn't store it well and it saw some weather.
