I would think "Civil Defense" as usually the Cap has the 3 blade prop , and I being a horse it seems more likely for a ground mission ........

But maybe the CAP had air/ground team that the "air" side" lead the horse rider to a crash site ..........

Just a fancy guesstement on the name! This would be a good idea what it might actually be thou. Have seen old articles about the CAP where they had units on horses going out to crash sites. An old Popular Mechanics i belive.

The Civil Air Patrol during WWII did have a "Border Patrol/Search And Rescue" team in Nevada. They even used some U.S Army horses from Ft. Riley, Kansas. However, I cannot confirm, nor deny, that that is what the patch is for. I'm sure the CAP member trained in that would have a skill identifier tab similar to that one though.

I would really like to get a positve ID on this one! I know of another one, found local in Carson City NV. This jives with the mounted patrols that were conducted in Nevada with horses from Ft Riley KS. Someone has to have some pics or more info about this group! HEY Lee Regan!! I know the patch collecting community thinks about 101st variations all day and has no interest in CAP stuff, but this is an unknown that needs a positive ID!

I would definitely lean towards CD rather than CAP. The fact that CD insignia commonly had the central design swapped out with different branch insignia makes this the likely guess. I haven't seen CAP insignia with the prop missing. It is an essential part of the CAP itself, so to take it out would be unusual to say the least.
