Could someone please enlighten me...what is this? It's about 2 1/2 inches across (just a guess, don't have a ruler). It's unmarked and the propeller and harp is attached to the wings by the center stud.

Likely a USAAF flight cadet band hat insignia. I think that the marching band for the cadet band would likely have worn this type of device. I dont think it is official, but I have seen one or two around.

I think this is the USAF Band insignia -- not necessarily cadet band. Given the color, I suspec it it not all that old.

Is the piece marked sterling any where on the back.Sure looks like a WW2 cap badge.Has the patina sterling gets. Most of the newer stuf from the last ten years or so has that dura chrome look. The two small clutches on the back are the faces smoth or dimipled.Again not a big concern as these get replaced.Just curious and thanks for posting.

There are no markings whatsoever. However, when removing the propeller the metal is not as tarnished and appears to be sterling to me.

Were there wings during WWII that were not made of sterling? I have a few that look like they were plated as well as some mechanic badges that looked like they were made of pewter. Perhaps I will make a seperate posting of those.
