Teamski Posted June 5, 2015 Share #4 Posted June 5, 2015 Neat patches. Looks like an Stinson L-5 to me. Maybe a liaison Squadron? -Ski
Der Finn Posted June 5, 2015 Share #5 Posted June 5, 2015 The red cross would seem to denote medical/first aid. Air Evacuation squadron?

Wake1941 Posted June 5, 2015 Share #8 Posted June 5, 2015 What are those cloth wings for? I have never seen any like that
firefighter Posted June 5, 2015 Share #9 Posted June 5, 2015 I agree.I was think air medical or cargo unit. The wings look like a aviation school? The large AAF winged star and scroll look to be cut from a pillow case or linen.
Patchcollector Posted June 5, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted June 5, 2015 The seller is also offering a Liaison Wing that they state belonged to the same guy that had the patches,so Ski I think you are on the right track, and Doyler I thought the same too when I saw the way the leather patches were constructed.FF I was wondering about that oversized winged star with the scroll, after reading your comment it makes sense now. vzemke Posted June 5, 2015 Share #12 Posted June 5, 2015 Those wings "NA" have been previously identified as North American Aviation, an aircraft manufacturer during WWII.
vintageproductions Posted June 5, 2015 Share #13 Posted June 5, 2015 Vance wouldn't North American Aviation be NAA? I always thought the NA was Narcotics Anonymous, and also thought these had some odd connection to it.
ocsfollowme Posted June 5, 2015 Share #14 Posted June 5, 2015 The NA wings typically have purple bobbing thread on the reverse. I have spent several hours tracking down the history of these wings but never came up with anything solid. I have owned two in the past: one coming in a AAF grouping such as this the other was a BIN in the aviation category. I think I got $10 for my duplicate. vintageproductions Posted June 5, 2015 Share #15 Posted June 5, 2015 Again, I could be totally wrong, I just have a gut feeling that there was some odd connection.
ocsfollowme Posted June 5, 2015 Share #16 Posted June 5, 2015 For some reason my last sentence was deleted in my last post since I used the wrong image extension. I have always seen North American Airlines as
Johnny Signor Posted June 6, 2015 Share #17 Posted June 6, 2015 The last posted image by OCSfollowme , is the North American Avaition emblem, but usually it's yellow and black , it's "similar" to the Airlines logo , but not that image . The "winged jeep" strikes me as Liaison and or Air Med Evac , I have seen this same emblem once before and then it was an "Unknown" , seeing as there are two here and the one I saw , it surely was some unit , just a matter of figuring out which as usual ............. ocsfollowme Posted June 6, 2015 Share #18 Posted June 6, 2015 sorry, I meant aviation, not airlines.
Manchu Warrior Posted June 6, 2015 Share #19 Posted June 6, 2015 I believe Vintage is correct on the wings.
vzemke Posted June 6, 2015 Share #20 Posted June 6, 2015 Narcotics Anonymos was founded in 1953. Wouldn't wearing a patch kinda defeat the whole anonymous part? I guess it's possible but I just don't buy it. My ID could also very well be incorrect. I was just passing along what I had previously been told. Patchcollector Posted June 6, 2015 Author Share #21 Posted June 6, 2015 Obviously, the "stars" of this group are the 2 leather pieces, and I agree with FF;they are'nt going to go for cheap.
vzemke Posted June 6, 2015 Share #22 Posted June 6, 2015 The NA on the wings is different from that found on all of the Narcotics Annom. logos, even the original one designed by the 1950s founder. The letters on the wing do not have the connector in the middle of them (found on all NA logos) and the bottom point of the N does not protrude lower than the A (also found on all NA letters). Also, Narcotics Annoymous seems like it was a rather small organization back then (much, much more obscure than it is today). Seems odd, since these wings are not that rare If you look for them. phillock Posted June 8, 2015 Share #24 Posted June 8, 2015 Hi all Been following this thread, are the squadron patches legit WWII CBI era? I don't know anything about WWII leather squadron patches , would be good to find out what your looking at to ID WWII and not a repro. ocsfollowme Posted June 8, 2015 Share #25 Posted June 8, 2015 There are some variations between the two leather patches too with pain, wing shapes, etc.
