Misfit 45 Posted May 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 25, 2015 I watch ebay on a daily basis. I've noticed for a long time that nearly all of the leather handled M4 bayonets have the early tapered pins complete with the knock out holes in the handle. Very seldom do I find the later staked pins.On the rare occasion I see a hemphill pommel, I'll find staked pins. Of course the 1953 Camillus M4 will have staked pins. Where are all the others? I know they didn't start the change over to straight staked pins until early 1945, but it just doesn't make sense. There at least should be a few out there. Anybody know? Just wondering. Misfit 45 Posted May 25, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted May 25, 2015 As far as I know, the only leather handled M4 produced near the end of the Korean war was the Camillus 1953 contract which may or may not have seen action in Korea. All other leather handle M4s were made during WWII. According to Gary's book, from March 1945 to August 1945 there were over 750,000 M4s made. Presumably made with straight pins which were staked. They sure aren't showing up on ebay. Marv
