warcollect1942 Posted May 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2015 I know the 101st and 17th are British made. Where were the rest of them made and when?
David D Posted May 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 22, 2015 The 29th one is. You can tell by the: -oval shape -Brown boarder -black back Dave
spectre Posted May 22, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 22, 2015 I thought all black backs were considered British made. Alan
vzemke Posted May 23, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 23, 2015 No, not "all" black backs are British made, and not all British made fully embroidered patch are black back. Some early WWII and post WWII US made patches have black blacks (oh which the 27th Div patch shown above is almost certainly an example of). ocsfollowme Posted May 23, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 23, 2015 I have a black backed Flying Cadet patch that I can positively guarantee that it was made in the US during early WW2.
tredhed2 Posted May 23, 2015 Share #6 Posted May 23, 2015 The 86th is US made.
warcollect1942 Posted May 23, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted May 23, 2015 I didn't think the 27th was British since the 27th fought in the PTO.

jw1969 Posted May 28, 2015 Share #11 Posted May 28, 2015 Why do you think the 30th was German made? Do hou have a copy of my book WW2 US made fully machine-embroidered cut edge SSI? I made a study on those specific embroideries of both the 30th and 76th Inf Div black back patches. It illustrates that there's a very good chance they were manufactured in Germany right after VE- day. H.

Teamski Posted June 2, 2015 Share #16 Posted June 2, 2015 I'm sure you are correct, but for the life of me I can't think of any. Which ones come to mind? Here are a couple examples. There were some 1950's era US made patches that had black backs. Not too common, but they are out there. -Ski
