Strange Eagle on the Army Commendation Medal

Maybe German Made?

Together with "normal" Mini Army Commendation Medals

I like it! It does sort of have a German look to it, but there are a lot of variations on all insignia. Are there any markings on the edge of it?

Interesting, seems to be custom made, I think that it's quite common in modern times that foreign medals are awarded to soldiers from Other countries especially if they served together in same missions for example as Polish Army and US Army in Afghanistan, las August two Polish generals were awarded LOM and BSM for commanding in Afghanistan

Brig. gen Ryszard Wisnewski -Legion of Merit

Brig. Gen. Krzysztof Gorecki - Bronze Star Medal with combat "V"

Thanks!

Yes here in germany you can only order a medalbar when you show your award dokuments and other papers. Without them you can get nothing. Its a good thing and make the life of the phonies and fakers harder.

Back when i was in the Bundeswehr - i just saw one guy with an american medal. Most times you see the Njimegen Cross as foreign medal.

Nice to see a German and U.S. combination.

I agree with Marksman about documentation. In addition, here in Germany, the award documents are more important and "valuable" than the awards themselves.

Stefan,

That is a wonderful looking medal bar.. Very nice to see..

I have a question about the the German Sports Badge with the numeral 10. Does the number 10 indicate that the officer had to go through the events for the sports badge on an annual basis, which would mean he served at least 10 years? In the US Army, one has to take a Physical Fitness test 2 times a year, so I was wondering if in the Bundeswehr there was a similar requirement for physical fitness..

Thanks for sharing..

Leigh

Thank you Guys!

@Rakkasan187

This is a civilian Sports Badge - you can make one each year on your own will. So you cant tell how long a soldier serve on the award number. You can own your first in school, there i got my one and only (yes yes... sometimes im lazy). My Neighbor - a police officer- made last year his 49 sports badge - sometimes i believe the cops here had nothing better to do :D

Greetings

Stefan

Likely it is German made, much as the often-seen awarded foreign awards are produced and sold here in the US (Vietnam, Kuwaiti, etc)

I have seen a couple of LOM on medal bars of German soldiers beside 1957 awards for WWII, so despite being enemies at one point, it seems the US was able to set that aside decades later and even recognize individuals service with an award

It's been a common practice for well over a century. Every now and then an achievement medal would be presented to an Afghani soldier who fought alongside US troops, usually an achievement or commendation medal. It was a really big deal to them to receive a medal from us, as I'm not sure they currently have an award system or, if they do, how developed it is. They would wear it everywhere...to chow, on patrol, in a firefight, etc

Thank you MWalsh! Even here in germany those mini medal Bars are very rare - and with an us award on it its like you won in lottery.

After ww2 we germans are not so much medal guys - i just wore my medals on the Day they awarted me them. After that i just had a Ribbon bar on my uniform.

Greetings

Stefan

That certainly explains why I was never able to find an additional Schuetzenschnur (I know, wrong spelling, but I can't seem to paste the correct letter) for sale after I earned mine in Gold back in 2003.
