SKIPH Posted May 17, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 17, 2015 Picked up a decent Collins M1942 machete today at "Tarbridge Militaria" from our friend Robert Wilson. Noticed something I hadn't seen before. The one I bought today has stamped from the handle down the blade US/ Legitimus/ Collins Co/ Collins Logo/ 1942 (away from the handle). Checked the 1945 Collins I have, and the info is opposite, from the handle down the blade facing the handle. 1945/Collins Logo/ Legitimus/Collins Co./ US. Anyway, checked on ebay, all the one's dated 1944/1945/1951 fell into the late markings, only the 1942s were the first way stated. The 1942 markings were like the 22", and 26" USN blades. Nothing earth shattering, just a point of interest. SKIP
thorin6 Posted May 17, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 17, 2015 Skip, I think I noticed that at one time, but didn't connect the dots. Thanks for the insight. t6
tankerman Posted May 18, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 18, 2015 SKIP; I have a "45 COLLINS stamped from handle down to blade tip like the "42. My blade focus is US machetes and a reason to enjoy is the vast differences of a rather common tool. For example: I have 3 variations of COLLINS "42 dated and 4 (yes, 4) variations of "43 dated True Tempers. As I pare down my collecting I am still partial to my machetes. I imagine they will always be my favorite for some reason..
SKIPH Posted May 18, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted May 18, 2015 Tankerman- I'll buy a machete on occasion if the price is right, and it's something I don't have. It's not a major focus, at least not yet. SKIP
warcollect1942 Posted May 20, 2015 Share #5 Posted May 20, 2015 I never noticed that either. I have three 1942 machetes. One is 22inch in a 1942 Schell Leather Goods scabbard. One is 22inch in a 1942 Milwaukee Saddlery scabbard. One is 26inch in a 1942 Milwaukee Saddlery scabbard. As you can tell I collect 1942 mostly.
