johnny12550 Posted May 14, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 14, 2015 I have this bayonet that appears like a civil war Zouave bayonet, but does not match exactly. It has a cut out in the muzzle ring which is not on a Zouave bayonet. I can't find any markings at all. Can anyone identify this bayonet? Misfit 45 Posted May 15, 2015 Share #4 Posted May 15, 2015 Just a quick glance tells me it is not a Zouave. It appears to be a Winchester Repeating Rifle bayonet Model 1866. Based on that notch in the barrel ring. Marv
johnny12550 Posted May 15, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted May 15, 2015 Thanks Marv, With the clue you gave me I think I have the answer. It looks like it's a Winchester M-1873/76 saber bayonet. I couldn't find much on the internet on this bayonet. Just a couple of pics from dealers selling their models.
johnny12550 Posted May 15, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted May 15, 2015 Actually Marv was correct. I did find the exact same bayonet and it is a Model 1866 Winchester bayonet. Apparently only about 1000 were made. Too bad it's in rough shape. Thanks for the help.
