What year was this made? Wasn't WW1 called the 'GREAT WAR' then WW1 after WW2 started?

think so, but not sure. pin just says world war. date on my research puts pin being made for a few years after war, up to 1920 or so.

Great pin. It says "World War" which was common for the time. the "I" was added after WW2. So either Great War or World War would indicate something between the wars. Interestingly, it has 1917 only, and not 1918 also. Very nice, I'd like to own that one myself!

Maybe that city had a specific unit that only served in 1917?

It was called THE World War early on, too. I've got some books published around the time of WWI that call it that.

It was also called the German-American War in smaller amounts. I have a WWI vet's ring that calls it that. I believe he bought it when he shipped out, as it is just dated 1917.
