meffinger Posted March 18, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2017 Hello, you hat is the model 1912 which was made through 1917 but yours is the early version 1912 as evidenced by the sharply down turned visor and red pinstripes. Your 1913 manufacture date is correct. Also note the black visor bill and chinstrap. Most of the USMC visors made during the war will have brown visor bills and chinstraps. Marines also wore black shoes before and after the war. In the AEF, they were issued roughout brown hobnail Pershing boots The visors made during the war had a more flatter and usually longer visor bill. That model is the model P1917-1918. Your EGA is the correct version P1892 for this period hat but the backside will tell the tale. It should be the thicker metal EGA. The pre 1892 EGA is a thinner sheet metal version. Hope this helps........Michael
meffinger Posted March 18, 2017 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2017 One thing I just realized, the patent date is not a manufacture date. But, this is a P1912 made from 1912 to 1917. Michael
