DannyBMW Posted May 3, 2015 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2015 I purchased this top this morning in a surplus store in Fayetteville, NC. along with a very clean 1968 dated flak vest and an early metal star buttoned HBT fatigue top. This top has had epaulettes added to the shoulders and pen pockets to the sleeves. No rank appears to have been every sewn on but the epaulettes have the imprint of Lt bars. can anyone guess the time frame this would have been proper for service wear in Vietnam? American Graffiti Posted May 3, 2015 Share #2 Posted May 3, 2015 Those are typical Korean modifications encountered on herringbone fatigue shirts. AG
B229 Posted May 4, 2015 Share #3 Posted May 4, 2015 You have the wrong Asian war. The 24th ID was never in Vietnam and as AG pointed out, the shoulder loops (epaulettes are the big gold things worn on dress uniforms) and the sleeve pen pocket are very typical modifications done during the Korean War. However, the US Army and nape tapes indicate this is post armistice. The 24th ID stayed in Korea until 1957, so I'd say it's approx 1954-57.
