Andrei Posted September 17, 2008 Share #54 Posted September 17, 2008 Very nice DCU of yours, Wayne. The in-country made tapes were made by local tailors ? Could you post close ups ? A.

Especially if you provided provenance!
mpguy80/08 Posted September 17, 2008 Share #58 Posted September 17, 2008 This jacket is a bit of an oddity. I didnt really take a look at it till after I posted it. It was first issued and worn during Desert Shift/Enduring Freedom, Sep 2001 through Mar 2002. When we returned to home station, we pulled the name tapes and prepared to turn them in, but were told to hold on to them. Iraq was heating up and they didnt know if we were going or not. Our unit was slated to go in through Turkey but when Turkey said no, they dropped us to standby status. The rest of post was all mobilizing and deploying, so you couldnt get a seamstress to sew on stuff to save your soul. We finally got orders for Iraq, and we deployed again on short notice, and lots of us had to have the name tags sewn on over there. The Sergeant's rank on the collar and Brassard are Saudi made, and the Forscom patch and name tags are Iraqi made. The Cav Patch and flag are US made. This is why there is a mix of Green and black, tan and black and brown and tan patches on the uniform. The brassard and Saudi Sergeant rank are a part of my career collection and wont leave my shelf till I am long departed... The pocket rank device were worn because we often coordinated with the Saudi National Guard troops while On duty. We provided perimeter security and an interior roving patrol on Eskan Village. The Saudis provided exterior patrols and did an occasional interior patrol to practice their english so to speak. Dont let anyone fool you, they drink and watch porn just like everyone else. This one Saudi sergeant major came by one night with his crew and started talking about John Holmes and Jack Daniels. This particular item is part of my career collection so I most likely wont part with it, but then, never say never. *laughs* You never know what life may deal you and what you might have to liquidate. asianairborne Posted April 29, 2012 Share #59 Posted April 29, 2012 Here is my favorite, bought from a fellow forum member here! I have the guys pants to go with the jacket also. Both have the same service number, the pants are named to LT. Ivory. So I will replace the name tape soon, with the correct name! Got a question. When you guys know the name to a soldier's BDU or DCU and the name tape is missing do you constantly search ebay or other sites hoping one will pop up with the same name? Or do you just get some custom made? I just do the latter, but most times you cant get the "been there" feel with the new ones.
32sbct Posted April 30, 2012 Share #60 Posted April 30, 2012 Here's one of my tops from OIF I all of the insignia is theater made at COB Speicher during the first years of the war. I know this cause I had this made in country with patches I purchased there. photo's courtesy Chris Fredrickson who currently owns the jacket Lets see some others out there! David Very nice jacket but the CAB did not come out until 2005 so this must be after OIF I. It would have to be somewhere around OIF III unless you added the CAB at a later date. I know I retro fitted one of my OIF II jackets with the CAB after it was awarded.
