ThompsonSavage Posted April 28, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 28, 2015 Never seen these before. Probably just a manufacturer variation. Any info on them?

ThompsonSavage Posted April 28, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted April 28, 2015 Used by army contracted manufaturers or were these put on the jacket post war by a civilian?
doyler Posted April 28, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 28, 2015 Any contract or spec tag in the right pocket? Im thinking the maker used what was avaiable. I have seen on USMC clothing both the USMC marked buttons and also the use of the plain flat front unmarked buttons.

doyler Posted April 28, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 28, 2015 Looks like a early pattern 43 jacket just guessing they used buttons they had on hand.Little to no wear on cloth, buttons and tag would suggest the items wasnt rebuttoned. Typically when I see an item with replaced buttons they used ones from sewing kits or civilian buttons of plastic or bakelite etc.A relative has a USMC hbt he replaced a button ot two with Japanese buttons. B229 Posted April 28, 2015 Share #7 Posted April 28, 2015 Used by army contracted manufaturers or were these put on the jacket post war by a civilian? They are the original buttons. You don't see these very often, but plain front buttons were used. The standard "burst of glory" tack buttons are actually the same thing, just with a stamped metal face crimped on to the button: http://atthefront.com/fabricandhardware/images/usbuttonsandhardware/button_13star_orig.jpg
