Bruce Linz Posted April 27, 2015 Share #4 Posted April 27, 2015 Hello Dean, Beautiful set of medals. If you want to find about the Purple Heart recipient, the date he was wounded, and the unit he was in when he was wounded you will need the award card for Purple Heart #25296. The easiest and quickest way to get an award card is to contact a researcher like Lori at Redbird Research redbird[email protected]. Cost is about $10 and turn around time is about one week. deansova Posted April 27, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted April 27, 2015 I believe the box may be from the Purple Heart as the return address is from a medal manufacturer am I correct??
Jim T Posted April 28, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 28, 2015 A very nice little group. Congratulations. Its good to know in the age of eBay that we might still have a chance of finding something good amongst the fleas. .......... Negative on the box being for the Purple Heart. George Studley was a dealer in military insignia who was very active at veteran gatherings. He specialized in supplying missing medals, mounting and reribboning stuff for vets; that doesn't look to be the case here. He may have supplied the medal with the red ribbon though: somewhere in my attic I have his catalog and in the recesses of my mind I seem to recognize that one; I will check. tarbridge Posted April 28, 2015 Share #7 Posted April 28, 2015 The box as said is not for the Purple Heart. ..Victory medal...French awards...
Jim T Posted April 28, 2015 Share #8 Posted April 28, 2015 Dean: No luck in finding Mr.Studley's catalog yet. I'm sure my heirs will in time find and chuck it in the dumpster with the rest of my "junk" but: A quick Google search which you probably have already done finds that the red-ribboned medal is The Verdun Medal, an unofficial yes, French commerative by that town. The Australian War Memorial examples are acquisitions RELAWM14786 & RELAWM14787 and there are others on eBay ("real" or not). .......

Johnnymac Posted April 28, 2015 Share #11 Posted April 28, 2015 I will tell you that the Victory medal and ribbon bar are the real deal. The Verdun medal would be the medal from Studley box for sure. His, (Studley's) books are very hard to find and go for a good penny because of all the photos info. On pages 135 to 137 you can read the story of "G Studley", in my book, "World War I, Victory Medals" by Jim Michels, sold only on Amazon.com. Please read my reviews posted there.
