Eddy.502 Posted April 14, 2015 Share #1 Posted April 14, 2015 Don't know much about kbars, please could you tell me what period of the war it would have been used in. Thank you very much.

gpw_42 Posted April 14, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 14, 2015 Pretty sure that round tang is a sign of an early knife. If I'm wrong, someone will surely correct me. Can you post a pic showing the thickness of the pommel, perhaps with a measuring tape behind it? That's another early/late indicator. Bob Hudson Posted April 14, 2015 Share #6 Posted April 14, 2015 It is blade marked so that's an earlier production. There's a chart here to help ID the variants of the WWII USMC Ka Bars: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/190666-a-marines-wife-in-need-of-vintage-ka-bar-advice/?p=1476748
Still-A-Marine Posted April 14, 2015 Share #7 Posted April 14, 2015 It has the mid-war marking on the blade. (If it only has "KA-BAR" without the second line of "OLEAN,N.Y.". The pommel has a round tang associated with a earlier variant. The tang would normally be rectangular and peened on a knife with those markings. Transition piece? If so very cool. Bob Hudson Posted April 14, 2015 Share #8 Posted April 14, 2015 If it only has "KA-BAR" without the second line of "OLEAN,N.Y." Bill I have seen that line almost worn away, but the photos aren't sharp enough to show anything.
