I learn something new every day. Todays lesson was the WW1 Smileage Book. Apparently these were issued by the War Department for purchase by the general public. The book would be purchased and sent to a serviceman. He would then use them for a seat at a movie theater or auditorium. Each book had 20 coupons.

These particular books were recently purchased as part of a small collection of WW1 homefront items.

If anyone else has additional info please feel free to share.

These are pretty cool, enjoy.........

There were five different one dollar Smileage Coupon books and a five dollar book. The dollar books appear in the paper money marketplace occasionally. I have only seen a single five dollar book and it is locked tight in the hands of a collector.

The color of the coupons inside is the same as the color of the cover of the book. Each letter prefix (none, A, B, C and D) are a different color.

If you do a Google search for Smileage Coupons you will find lots of information about these.

Here's the $5 book:

Oops. Someone needs to walk me through how to upload a picture here.

Also, the smallest file size I can make it exceeds the "attach files" limit of 251 k.
