I'm sure he is. I was hoping it stayed under the radar but that didn't happen

As a side note, I was looking at a WWII Navy KIA file at the archives, and his extra dog tag was stuck in the folder. The staff practically s**t themselves. Anyway, not sure why they did not put it back in the file folder..

Wow that's pretty cool! I hope they tried returning it to the family or something.

Yes they are. I've only seen a couple of KIA Iwo tags. I've got a KIA Indy tag which I've posted here and god knows how rare that is. He was part of the marine detachment of 39 marines and only 9 survived.

I noticed that too. It was made right before he shipped off for Iwo! Probably wasn't one of the tags he wore there though unless it was sent back.

Actually from what I've seen with my 4th Marine Division archive files, they shipped out in January of 1945. Could very well been something he carried there!

 

Killer dog tag group, too. Someone must be feeling lucky!
