Scarecrow Posted March 29, 2015 Share #1 Posted March 29, 2015 This is a uniform grouping that I recently acquired. I normally keep my collecting interest confined to the 8th AF, however just couldn't pass on this unique grouping. This is a custom in theater made uniform. Consisting of the jacket, pants and shirt. All are made from Italian silk! When I saw it at our monthly militaria meet it was soiled and looked like it had been stuffed in a duffel bag for the past 70 years. But I knew it was uniquely constructed so took a chance. After a trip to the dry cleaners for a little pressing and cleaning you can see the result. I also believe that the winged prop collar insignia are theater made. There are no tags and it's not named so the odds that it belonged to a Tuskeegee airman are extremely remote, however I have chosen to display as one of these brave airman. McDermut99 Posted March 30, 2015 Share #2 Posted March 30, 2015 A very unusual uniform, it's a shame it isn't named. I wonder how much it cost that officer to have it made with Italian silk.

flytiger Posted April 1, 2015 Share #5 Posted April 1, 2015 You lucked out with this one! Very nice. Don't ever think the 15th did not go thru hell also. Starting in early 43 with missions aging Italian targets ( they were a numbered AF yet, that was coming). Ploesti being a major deal 1 Aug 43 ( my father was on that one as his 31st mission, 98th BG, 345th BS. DFC 1st OLC for the mission).
