This is my first post. I have been collecting for awhile but have just finally gotten around to joining a forum like this. This grouping came from a local estate. The purple heart and world war one victory medal are original. The rest are re-issue. The victory medal has Champagne Marne, Aisne Marne and defensive sector bars. The purple heart is engraved to Viggo Christensen. He was also in WW2 in 927TH ENGINEERS in the CBI. I found this info on the WW2 Memorial website. I have also found his NARA info. I was hoping someone might have a 3rd ID roster and could give me some WW1 related info on him.

I was also interested to know if anyone has run across an Admiral Hugh Howell award like the one in the display. [bottom row, right side.] It appears to be a standard academic medal that is engraved on the back with the award name, and the recipients name. I have found this is A Navy JAG corps award but not much else. It seems a little strange that it was awarded to an Army Colonel also. Thanks in advance for any info, Eric

I bet this a a very low numbered heart....

The number on the PH is 34748. It is a split broach. I also have a 1970's- reissued one with the same name engraved.

Interesting. I was thinking it was much lower than that going by the two line offset style and the reverse planchet "texture". Maybe you could post the 1970's Heart engraving as well. That would be a good visual reference for those of us rhat collect PH's. Thanks thumbsup.gif .

Here are both of them. I believe the newer one is late 70's early 80's judging by the other medals that were with it.

what is that medal in the bottom left corner with the 3rd ID insignia?

JD

It is a 3rd Division medal. I believe they were give out to the WW1 vets by the 3rd Div Association. This one appears to be newer. I have never seen one before, I don't know much about it.
