Here's something you don't see everyday, according to the tag it is a gun sight from a Japanese Zero aircraft. Sent home in 1944. Is it what it says it is?

Regardless of the plane it came off, it's a nice bring back item!

Thanks for looking,

Tino

That's the kind of item that fascinates me. I hope no US pilot was ever lined up in it but I suppose that's part of the fascination. Very nice.

Your gunsight is great, it would be a nice piece to have on display since they are so instantly recognizable and unique.

I cannot say for sure, but suspect it's not from a Zero. It might not actually be from a machine gun either, but rather it possibly is from a machine gun camera, as shown in the picture.

It could also be off of one of the models of what I think was the Type 98 machine gun. They were sort of like a Lewis Gun but without the cooling jacket, and used on aircraft which were multi crew and had gunners.

I think MWalsh might be right on the gun camera sight.I owned a complete in the box optical Zero gun sight years ago.The steel sight for that had a large single hole in the center of four equal quadrants and sat out on the left side of the optics on a small bracket. It did not have all of the rings like the one shown in post one.Scotty

Thanks so much for the additional information! It looks identical to the sight shown in the picture. An interesting item for sure.

And thanks again for all the feedback!
