Framing/displaying a WW2 laundry bag

I recently bought a denim WW2 laundry bag with some graphics stenciled on it that I love (paid too much though!)

Anyway, I do not know how to display it. I would really like it to be in some kind of protected/archival frame, sleeve, etc.

Luckily the bag is missing the drawstring so it should be able to lay pretty flat.

Is there some kind of archival plexiglass or something I could get? There are good graphics on both sides so Ideally I'd love to just have it between 2 pieces of plexiglass or something so I can spin it around.

I really don't want it to be traditionally framed...I just don't like that look.

Appreciate any help!

It's a bag like the one pictured here. I will update this with a photo of the actual bag soon.

Are there any double shadow boxes with plexiglass instead of glass? And would plexiglass protect something like this? Or would it have to be glass?

I'd like to be able to buy something online instead of getting something custom locally.

I was hoping maybe I could make something.

(I've never seen a double sided shadow box)

Hi,

Double sided shadow boxes are used by butterflies / Insects collectors to display their best specimens.

This company sells double glass shadow box for butterflies / Insects : http://www.butterfliesandthings.com/product/category-1421de2b-1d6c-4d9d-8470-b5b3b7890d39.aspx

His largest size is 12" x 12" x 2" though.

Here is an interesting custom made box : http://www.foursided.com/framing/shadowbox

Ya, needs to be at least three times the size of that.

That last link is interesting, but they don't describe how they made the box.

This may be an easier solution. First off, I don't know the dimensions of the bag but you could buy a shadowbox like this one from Michael's http://www.michaels.com/studio-decor-large-shadowbox-black/M10174578.html?dwvar_M10174578_color=Black#q=shadow+boxes&start=1 or from any craft store that sells frames. Then you could take the back off it (the back should be removable) and replace that with another piece of Plexiglas. You will want to replace the glass in the front with plexi as well to make sure that both are UV protected. It is a little more pricey but will protect your piece without the added weight/ change of breaking that you get with glass. Then to mount it what you could do is put a small eye hook on each side and then string a strong fishing line through the holes meant for the draw-string. This is just me spit balling, so pick and choose what info may work for you. Or you might think this is all malarkey and in that case disregard everything I said.

Haha, thank you!

I was actually thinking of doing something like that.

The shadow boxes at Michaels don't go as big as I need unfortunately.

And just to buy 2 pieces of UV plexi is like $100!

So I'm weighing my options right now.

Thanks for the input!

You can buy plexiglass of various thickness at Lowes. They can cut it to size for you there, or you can get a cutter for a few bucks. A few scratches with the cutter and it snaps quite easily, I used it to make lids for my wife's hermit crab tank

I'd like UV protected plexi, but in the short term, I am probably going to do this.

Thanks!
