M1A2 gas mask with bag (bag has snaps on it, and United Costumers Hollywood tag)

Got this M1A2 gas mask and bag yesterday. Mask is 1940 dated, Universal marked.

 

The bag is interesting in that it has round snaps on it vs lift-the-dot snaps, and it has a Hollywood Costumer's tag in it. Is the bag a military issue mask or prop?

The seller purchased the mask and bag separately.

I don't know the origins of the bag but you actually have an excellent example of the M1 gas mask, predecessor of the M1A1 and M1A2 masks. You don't see too many of those!

I recall my diaphram gasmask bag has grey painted snaps.Just an early bag.Nothing unusual

He does not have an MI, the original MI had fixed lenses, brown internal rubber, and a khaki stockinette coating. The MIA1 was the same, but used removable threaded lenses over pressed. The mask he has is the second model MIA2, which uses a grey stockinette coating on black rubber, a standard MIXA1 filter, an uncoated grey MII hose, and most of all, a slightly different arrangement of the lower straps and made in a single universal size, rather than a numeric sizing system of the MI and MIA1 masks (my 1933-dated, mint-condition MIA1 set is pictured below).

 

As for the carrier, it seems to be a hollywood prop. Nothing more, nothing less. The fasteners and markings are totally off for an MIVA1 Carrier Bag.

Great mask! Years ago, I remember seeing pallets of them still un-opened in the cans. Not what I collect but your pictures make me wish I would have grabbed a couple just for posterity's sake. Thanks for sharing.
