I thought I would do a poll to see how many members have female relatives who have served or are currently serving in the military. I have spoken with several of you who have sisters and daughters who have served or are currently serving in the military. I would love to hear stories about the women in your family.

I will start out by saying I have a niece who is a Captain in the Army National Guard Nursing Corps. I am beyond proud of her.

I also have two other nieces too young right now to serve, I constantly tell them to never let anyone hold them back from their dreams; whatever they may be.

My wife served in the Navy from 2000-2004 as a religious programs specialist and later as a Master at Arms after 9/11. She also spent a year stationed in Iceland.

That is great! ..I can't imagine how cold it must have been in Iceland! .Kat

I can't tell you how many times she walks in the door muttering that it's just like Iceland out there (we live in the North East)

My mother was a Navy WAVE in WW2. Still living at 94, she's in better shape than I am! LOL

That's awesome! Do you talk to her about her service? Where was she stationed?

My wife served 11 years on active duty in the Air Force and another 7 years in the reserves (1966-1984). This included 15 months in Southeast Asia (Thailand).

If my wife hadn't been in the Navy, we would have never met. She was the cute Ensign checking IDs on the quarterdeck of my first command... :)

My fiance is currently a member of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan - Bronze Star Medal, Combat Action Badge. She's definitely been there, done that. On top of all that she enjoys the hobby as well collecting Nurse Corps Caduceus. She got her first British Made WW II caduceus at the recent Raleigh show.

My sister is current active duty Senior Chief USN. She has been on active duty since 1998. My wife was set to join the Army but chose a life as a Navy Wife instead. Mom wanted to join the Navy during WW2, but all her brothers were off in the Pacific in the Army and she had to stay on the farm to help.

Too Much WW1 Militaria

Kat,

No, I don't. We have an agreement, I don't talk about my two tours in Vietnam, and all she will say is that she took care of burnt sailors in Brooklyn Naval Hospital. She was a Hospital Corpsman. She doesn't want to think about it, and neither do I.

I had an aunt who was in the Coast Guard in WW2....

She said that she and a friend went to enlist, and decided on the Marine Corps, but after talking to the recruiter, they were filled up at the time,...and they didn't want to join the army really....so decided on the Coast Guard.

She was stateside......eventually married a man who was a backseat gunner in Naval aviation and saw action in the PTO.

I knew her well, but he died before I really knew him.

They lived in Texas but she was from Ohio....she would come back once a year or so to visit friends and family until she died a few years ago. I always enjoyed her visits.
