ocsfollowme Posted February 14, 2015 Share #1 Posted February 14, 2015 There was a great ASMIC article on these a few issues back. I own a handful, and am always looking to add more to my collection. (PM me if you have one for trade). These are most of the ones that I had photos of from past eBay auctions. Add your scans or screenshots please. USCapturephotos Posted August 17, 2015 Share #7 Posted August 17, 2015 I have a seabees one. I thought it was a theater patch but a few other forum members idd it as a mirror patch. I'm always looking for original WW2 photos. Paul
12A54 Posted August 17, 2015 Share #8 Posted August 17, 2015 Why are they referred to as "mirror" patches? Just curious.
vintageproductions Posted August 17, 2015 Share #9 Posted August 17, 2015 Because they were originally sold in the base px's with mirrors glued to the back.

ocsfollowme Posted August 22, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted August 22, 2015 Why are they referred to as "mirror" patches? Just curious. As Bob stated... This is exactly how they were sold. The patch would have a mirror glued to it. It was wrapped in a wax paper envelope with a thing piece of cardboard behind it. It was then in an envelope that could be mailed to a sweetheart. Very much like sweetheart jewelry, but these patches acted like a makeup compact. The patches all seemed to have the yellow/blue braided cord around them. This mailer envelope went to a US Army Quartermaster patch...hence why it has red inked/stamped "Quartermaster" on the reverse. I pulled the mirror off and kept this as an example. 80 years later, the mirrors look like this and since I collect home front patches, I just rip off the mirrors.
