Kurt do guys collect these by ship and do they have value, seems I've got one in a group to a sailor but do not remember his ship, It is stored in garage, now I'm wondering if I should dig out and give a second look.

I would love to see it. You should post it on this thread. People do look for these by ship with the USS Missouri being the most popular one.

 

I sold one recently and got the same for it as a fixed bail helmet is worth.

I thought I would bump this great thread up with a new addition. This is a small portion of a very large grouping I recently picked up named to a USS Missouri crewman who enlisted in 1943 and served on that ship from launching until 1946. The group consisted of 3 full large boxes of paperwork from his time in the service, including some pieces of wreckage from the Kamikaze that hit the Missouri on 4/11/1945. I'm still trying to sort through everything, but came across these items the other day, so I figured I would add them to the thread.

These are the last of the photos. Included in the grouping was a bag of about 18 of these matchbooks consisting of both designs.
