Thought I'd share a couple of pairs of USMC trumpeter ranks I picked up recently. They're equivalent to the rank of Private, which I believe would have been the seventh grade.

I know that these went away when the rank system was simplified around 1937, but any more specifics about the uniforms and period would certainly be welcome.

This pair is interesting because they seem to have been colored gold at some point--the trumpets are clearly red at the edges and on the back. And a bit of the gold color is on the fabric in spots.

Awesome patches!  I need to start picking up the trumpeter insignia.. they do appear on ebay from time to time.

Thanks!

You're right, they do show up often enough, with variations in color and pattern, if you are into that.

Haven't run across one for a drummer yet, though.
