Collector5516 Posted January 27, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2015 I'd like to know if all WWII issue Navy DFCs were wrap brooch. If not, were some slot brooch but thicker than their AAF counterparts? Thanks!
KASTAUFFER Posted January 27, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2015 The ones manufactured during WWII are wrap brooch medals. The medals manufactured by the US Mint for the Navy right after the war did have slot brooches. The planchets are basically the same. Kurt
Collector5516 Posted January 27, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted January 27, 2015 Thanks for the info, Kurt. Would the slot brooches manufactured right after the war have been issued in shorter Navy cases or the cases had been standardized by then? If the cases were the same as Army Air Force/Air Force, there is no way to tell a Navy cross from an AAF/AF one, right?
KASTAUFFER Posted January 27, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 27, 2015 The slot brooch medals made for the Navy were issued in short cases. The Army did issue some of the same medals, but in Army cases. Kurt
Collector5516 Posted January 27, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted January 27, 2015 Gotcha. I recently purchased a lot of medals at auction and will be listing a few sets on the forum later today. Just want to make sure I'm being as accurate as possible. Thanks again for the info.
