Civil War canteen CSN Fantasy piece or rare

Hello C.W. experts. take a look at this. Its named Pvt. John Hope CSN. Well that alone sounds too good to be true. The tin outer is very thin & crumbling. The wood inside appears to be Very old. Still this means nothing as I know fakers will go to any lengths to pull one over. The tin appears to have small nails in it. The inside is hollow Like a canteen should be. Comments on this one.....fantasy or rare? thanks...

Not a expert...nameplate bugs me...and the nails.I do not know if that was done...most of the ones I have seen were soldered.

Oops, looks like it was left in the vinegar and straw mix to long. I don't like it. Confederate stuff just was not that well marked as far as canteen. Some swords yes, belt plates yes. General gear, rairly was marked C.S., hardly ever marked C.S.A. or C.S.N. A scratched name in the side of a wood canteen is often seen in original examples. This looks like it was assembled over a wood canteen with the brass plate affixed before hand before the tin was soldiered together. It's diffinantly not a type that has been seen as being authentic. When I was stationed in Georgia I used to drive around to roadside fleamarkets every weekend. I saw piles of similar stuff that was very rusted and completely bogus. All of the history books must be wrong because from all of the "Confederate" stuff laying around down there, the South must have never had a supply problem
