Named USMC khaki shirt- help please?

I was disappointed today to find that a vendor at the local antique warehouse that I've been buying militaria from for the last 15 years is retiring. I managed to pick this up before he cleared everything out.

This is not my strong point at all so any help is appreciated. I believe it to be WWII era based on the buttons, or at least pre-1958 due to the lack of crossed rifles under the Sgt chevrons, which are green if you can't see in the picture. It is also named to an R. M. Scott which I'm sure would be quite difficult to ID on ancestry but I'm hoping someone can give it a try anyway as my account is expired.

Any help is much appreciated folks.

Thanks Connor. I figured it'd be near impossible to get a match without a service # (and such a common last name to boot). Any ideas on the shirt itself?

There are four RM Scott's who were Sgt. in USMC in the 40's and 50's, looking at the shirt it could be 50's but without anymore info it seems like a dead end for IDing it.

Thanks for taking the time to look him up! I'll go over the inside of the shirt a little more carefully- maybe a laundry mark will show up somewhere. In either case thanks for the look gents
