notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2015 Since my Alaska highway topic went over so well, I figured I would start a topic for my pictures from around the state during WWII. If I misidentify anything, please let me know. I am by no means a vehicle expert. First up, here are some civilian trucks from here in Fairbanks. They were part of the Ladd Field fleet. The first two are '42 or later Fords. I'm not to sure about the third:
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #2 Posted January 18, 2015 These next photos I'm not too sure about. They are from the same album as the trucks. I thought at first they may have been forest service, but then I saw the hood markings. Here are the first two: close up of the hood
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted January 18, 2015 Two more pics with the same door emblems visible:
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #4 Posted January 18, 2015 I shared some of these next shots previously. These are from a photo album belonging to a Canadian stationed at Annette Island Landing Field in South East Alaska. First up, Jeeps:

notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted January 18, 2015 These next three may be out of line for this forum. In fact the last two I am not sure are even in the us. Some of the photos in the album are from after the unit was shipped to France. But at the risk of getting chewed out, here it goes anyway. Canadian Military Pattern Trucks definitely still in Alaska:
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted January 18, 2015 The last two. A scrap yard, and salvaging parts:
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted January 18, 2015 The next series are from a late war album somewhere in the Aleutians. There are photos of Kiska in the album after we reoccupied it, so that may be where these are as well. The first three are of the same jeep with a hard top. notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #13 Posted January 18, 2015 The next album is from a Navy Seabee stationed at Dutch Harbor. First up some heavy equipment: Unloading a dozer
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #14 Posted January 18, 2015 this first one is a Walter. They made primarily snow removal equipment, but I am guessing this is a rock truck. The company was bought out by the Kovatch Organization that primarily makes fire fighting equipment
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted January 18, 2015 Euclid rock truck A couple of Graders. The life preserver is a nice touch

notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #17 Posted January 18, 2015 Does anyone know what this piece of equipment was for? It appears to be built on a grader chassis? A parade of some type
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #18 Posted January 18, 2015 here are a couple of odd balls: I'm not sure if this is a sedan delivery, or built on the truck chassis. It looks a little too tall to be a Sedan Delivery. Woody station wagon
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #19 Posted January 18, 2015 Another Jeep with a hardtop on the left I'm not sure what make this sedan is, but if you look closely, you can see the Navy markings on the door I have no clue on this one. It may be another station wagon or delivery, but I am not sure
notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #20 Posted January 18, 2015 These are the last two from this album. I may have saved the best for last. Harley Davidson Servicar:

notinfringed Posted January 18, 2015 Author Share #25 Posted January 18, 2015 those are some great Alcan shots. I can't imagine what it was like building that road. In some of the pictures, it is little more than a four wheeler trail.
