SKIPH Posted January 17, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 17, 2015 Anton67- If it's a legit one, you have a very rare Henry Disston & Son's MK1 Trench knife. If you could provide more pictures, especially the stamp and handle, there will be a joint inspection and advice on this potential gem. Everyone will be interested. As for current price, not sure, you never see these for sale. SKIP
thorin6 Posted January 17, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 17, 2015 Here is the page on the M1918 Trench Knife reproductions; the HD&S repro's are near the end: http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/m1918mk1.htm
stealthytyler Posted January 17, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 17, 2015 I have an original. It was my grandfathers from WWII. I would say good condition originals go for around $300? Someone please correct me if im wrong! here is a pic of my original (note: he modified it a bit in-field...cut off the butt spike thing to prevent from digging into his side while on belt)
SKIPH Posted January 17, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 17, 2015 stealthtyler-I would venture to say they were worth substantially more, due to the rarity, but that would be determined between the buyer, and seller. SKIP
cwnorma Posted January 17, 2015 Share #8 Posted January 17, 2015 Interesting, considering I just bought this knife. According to the USPS tracking, it is due to arrive tomorrow. If someone is offering this knife to you then there is clear FRAUD being perpetrated. This could be interstate-Mail Fraud, eBay Fraud, and Paypal fraud. If I were you I would tell whoever is offering you the knife that providing this photograph has entangled you in this fraud and created a record that could be used to implicate you. If the knife does not arrive, or if there is a bait and switch, you have implicated yourself. Welcome to the internet.
anton67 Posted January 17, 2015 Author Share #9 Posted January 17, 2015 I dont know what you are talking about: If I were you I would tell whoever is offering you the knife that providing this photograph has entangled you in this fraud and created a record that could be used to implicate you. If the knife does not arrive, or if there is a bait and switch, you have implicated yourself. Anyway, here are some more photos of the knife from the seller. anton67 Posted January 17, 2015 Author Share #15 Posted January 17, 2015 What is the auction number? I don't know why you are threatening me. I received an inquiry from the seller off of CL and I merely asked for more photos. Maybe this guy is full of sh*t and he is trying to rip me off. Ever think of that? Maybe he took the photos off of someone else's eBay add and is trying to rip me off. Maybe the guy who sold it to you is actually a stand up guy. I am glad you chimed in. I made him an offer so we will see where it goes. I will keep you informed.
cwnorma Posted January 17, 2015 Share #16 Posted January 17, 2015 I am not threatening you. If the item does not arrive, or if there is a bait and switch, I will file a fraud report against the eBay seller. Again, you are taking this too personally and it wasn't intended to be aimed at you. If someone offered it to you, after I purchased it, then you may be the one who is a victim of fraud. If the knife does not arrive, or something else arrives instead, I may be the victim. Either way there is potential fraud. If someone offered you this knife, and sells it to you, then at the very least, I am the victim. I am only telling you that I purchased this knife off of eBay on 15 January. I have the mail tracking information, and screenshots of the auction. I also have the paypal receipt. So like you, if the knife arrives as it is supposed to, I will let the forum know that all is well. Either way, it appears that one of us may be the victim. This happens a lot since we are communicating via the written word and not in person. Don't worry about me, I am not going to buy it. I really do appreciate your heads up on it. I directed him to this post to show him that we know what is going on. Can you still please provide the link to the ebay auction? It would be nice to see the photos and put it all together. Thank you again and like I said before, your seller could be perfectly stand up. This CL guy could be the one trying to pull a deal. Good luck! anton67 Posted January 17, 2015 Author Share #21 Posted January 17, 2015 I am really glad we had this on line conversation. This guy said he cleans out houses and came across this knife. He says he lives in my county in PA and wants to do a deal off of CL. Sure is fishy. Why would he offer me the knife just today if he already mailed it to you? Unless he either did not mail it to you OR He was planning on ripping me off. I wish you the best cwnorma. Let us know tomorrow.
cwnorma Posted January 17, 2015 Share #22 Posted January 17, 2015 anton67, I really appreciate you posting this. If for some reason I don't get the knife I now have even more dated evidence to support a fraud claim against the seller. Of course, If I get the knife, I will let everyone know that all is well, and then you might want to deal with the CL person how you see fit. Best wishes and thanks again Chris

cwnorma Posted January 17, 2015 Share #24 Posted January 17, 2015 All, I just got a very nice e-mail from the seller. All of this was apparently a misunderstanding between him and his business partner and the knife is (and has been all along) on its way! When it arrives, I'll post more pictures of it. I do want to say that the seller seems to be a very decent guy, he has read this thread, and the implications of fraud stung him quite a bit. I also want to say, that as far as I am concerned, I purchased the knife, and according to the USPS the knife is on its way. Until something else happens, please refrain from further implications as it appears to have been an honest mistake. I'll post more when the knife arrives. anton67 Posted January 17, 2015 Author Share #25 Posted January 17, 2015 He read this thread because I sent him the link to it. Is rather angry at me for posting his name. He also told me the same thing about his partner selling the knife and him not knowing about it. If the mods want to delete his name in the county that he lives in I have no problem with that. I want to make it clear that I am not and have not accused him of any fraud. For that matter I don't think anybody has. It was obviously concerning to both of us that we were being offered the same night for sale. I hope all is well and I'm glad that I posted this so we are all on the same page.
