It's amazing how many Civil War swords must have been available in the '40 (not the one shown which is clearly dated later). The knives are great but now I'd rather have the swords.

It's really intersting conversion. Never seen one before. For the record the conversion in the photos was done on an M1906 cavalry saber. These were made by Ames. They are identical to the M1860 saber but made with a browned iron hilt. The German made blades were all stamped with the flaming bomb and dated 1906.

Best, George

I've seen this done with old, damaged Marine NCO swords... There was an old jar head in Jacksonville NC who did this decades ago. Nothing of that nature.

Very cool.Another one to add to my "dream list".I'm wondering..Are these conversions scarce,or were these "made" in abundance?Does anyone have any info on numbers converted by "type"?

While they are probably not considered common, you can almost always find one on ebay. They must have made a lot of them or else they get resold a lot. Mostly you will find the knife crafters variety with leather handle but the sword handled knives are routinely for sale. At a large knife/gun show they routinely show up. Just need to keep looking and saving.
