Misfit 45 Posted January 16, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2015 I just got an early Imperial M4 that is in excellent++ condition. It belonged to a WWII Marine named Ramon McFarland. I suspect he got it and stuck it in his foot locker because it is in near mint condition. McFarland was noted in an article in a Kirtland, Ohio paper as one of a team of an anti-aircraft crew which shot down 13 Japanese aircraft for which he received a medal. Unfortunately there is no picture of him wearing the piece; like I said, he probably never carried it (yes I know the article was written a year before the first M4 was made). The blade is almost perfect and the scabbard is in exceptional condition as well, even having all of the black anodizing on the cross over snap. I can't be sure that the name on the scabbard was written during the war, or was written many years later. To me, it looks like a felt pen was used. I don't think they had them during the war, a grease pen might have been used, but not sure it would stay intact all these years. Either way, it's nice to have an id'd bayonet that is in such nice condition. BTW, don't tell anybody, but the Marine's M2 knife is also on ebay right now. I hesitate to mention it because people here on the forum may already be watching it. Thanks for letting me show you this great M4. Marv
Misfit 45 Posted January 16, 2015 Author Share #2 Posted January 16, 2015 Here's the article from the paper. I wasn't going to post the blade tip, but the delete function kept saying "action failed". It's a nice blade tip though.

mikedon Posted March 7, 2017 Share #7 Posted March 7, 2017 Here's the article from the paper. I wasn't going to post the blade tip, but the delete function kept saying "action failed". It's a nice blade tip though. I got the Mark 2. I have a copy of his separation papers if you want a copy. They showed he severed on Guadalcanal, Rendova Island, and other places.
