gitana Posted January 15, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2015 I just saw this and was wondering about the strange color. To me this looks like it was done by Bubba Jr. It doesn't have the dark green I'd expect to see. What do you think?

TheGrayGhost Posted January 15, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 15, 2015 Probably civilian done, but we'll never know. Your right, it is an odd green. Love the Coastal Artillery button!

gitana Posted January 15, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted January 15, 2015 You're right, it was just painted on the outside. It's such a jarring color, especially in that last photo up against other gear.
robinb Posted January 15, 2015 Share #6 Posted January 15, 2015 That resembles the same shade of green as CCC uniforms. Just a thought.
Dr_rambow Posted January 15, 2015 Share #7 Posted January 15, 2015 That's a really early 1910 canteen (thin wire hanger with tube) originally in OD. By the amount of wear on the eagle snaps, it must have had a long service life! I like the pile! I see some other early gear that looks mostly unmolested. Any other shots of those goodies? atb Posted January 16, 2015 Share #8 Posted January 16, 2015 Nice French canteen, too.

It was an ebay auction so the photos was with it. I liked it because it really set off the Martian green of the cover. Any other thoughts to the paint? Should it be coveted or dunked in Acetone? 124cav Posted January 16, 2015 Share #10 Posted January 16, 2015 I have a 1910 shovel from a CCC group and it is painted in the same paint and method. The handle of the shovel is dipped in the same stuff too.
gitana Posted January 16, 2015 Author Share #11 Posted January 16, 2015 I wonder why the CCC felt the need to paint their gear? But thanks for the replies, that may solve it. I will look at other CCC gear and see if I can find some matches.

Note the center grommets are the same size as the upper and lower ones, while the center grommets should be smaller size on a GI pistol belt.
