Texas-Where are the Good Stores in El Paso?

Hello Everyone.

 

I'm going to El Paso for New Years and I was wondering where all the interesting surplus stores and military antique stores are (especially WWII).

 

I know this may seem like a silly question considering Ft. Bliss but I currently just don't know.

 

All suggestions are appreciated.

You may want to check out the West side of El Paso. Off Mesa street and Doniphan drive there are several antique places. There is also a place called the Whoopee Bowl, which has some decent items. There are a few booths with military items, and there are a few surplus shops on Dyer Street near Fort Bliss. One shop is called Ft David, this is on Dyer street and the other is GI Supply which is on Fred Wilson Blvd. A few other antique places exist but as far as military items they really don't have too much. On Mesa street on the Westside there is an antique shop, it is across from the fire station I used to work at and on Montana and US 54 there is another small antique shop. Other than those, there really isn't to much..

 

I have lived in El Paso for the past 25 years and have seen some great antique shops come and go. It is hit or miss really, but try the areas I mentioned above and you may get lucky.

Nothing new as far as shops,, but look me up when you get into El Paso...

Here's an update for anybody visiting the El Paso area.

 

GI Supply- good place if your wanting to get your alterations done quickly, small store, difficult parking, not much to look over, and the place is loud with the embroidering machine going on plus the TV. Had to almost yell at the guy behind the counter to look at patches. Customer service is OK, marginal at best, seems like there was a lot of bored GI's in there.

 

Ft. David surplus- definitely stay away from this place! There is no parking except along the street, cramped place filled with stuff just piled up all over, have to navigate the small game like trail inside, and the older guy running the store is plain crazy. Over inflated prices, nothing is marked, bad customer service, not to mention the guy to kept talking to himself and acting weird. I won't be going back there any time soon.

Yea...I just came from Bliss, I was there for about two years. The best pickups I had were at the gun shows that came to town. Everything else is probably the worst surplus situation I've seen across multiple bases. I found a few things up in NM and on various travels to and from San Antonio, Houston and Dallas...but you're looking at small shops along 8 hour drives minimum...I'm glad to be back on the East Coast again! Loved the training area though...nice post overall

I have lived in El Paso for the past 27 years. Was stationed here in 1990 and never left. At one time there were some great surplus and antique shops here in the Sun City, but these have just about dried up. As mentioned in the above posts there are a few left but nothing to get too excited about. The GI Supply shop caters mostly to the active Soldiers on post who are needing name tags and other items sewn to uniforms prior to deployments. The clothing and sales store on post is swamped most of the time and usually the wait time to get items back from them is greater than the time the Soldiers need to get items.

 

Will agree that the owner of Fort David military surplus is a certified nut job.. I have known him a number of years which is to say I have been to his shop numerous times and have been able to get some pretty decent items from him because I established a business relationship with him and he pulled items from his storage for known customers.. Prices for me were extremely fair and he was negotiable on a lot of items, but again he was out there....
