Howdy - I've never seen one, but might guess it was used by a crewman on an armed merchantman (like a gunner's mate, perhaps). 48 stars on the American flag, so it's probably WWII. Also a naval 'Jack' and a rifle crossed with an anchor behind the US shield, so there's some connection to the sea. Any maker's mark on the back? Can you post a photo of the whole cap? I'm sure somebody on here will be able to tell you everything you want to know about it, and then some. Good luck - Chris

Actually it is circa 1930's WW1 Veteran Association. The army version is gilt the naval version silver.
