bheskett Posted December 7, 2014 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2014 Hey everyone, I have these two edged weapons, one is a sword the other a bayonet. There are no makers marks on either one. There are some wording on the sword blade but I can't make it out. If you would be so kind could someone identify them and if possible get me a value of them. Thanks Bob First is a view of them both. Next the sword

atb Posted December 7, 2014 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2014 Bottom one with black grips, is Spanish, I think. "ARTAa" is for Artillery or the Arsenal where it was made?

bheskett Posted December 7, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted December 7, 2014 Yep found it. It is the Spanish Modelo 1881Yatagan Artillery Sword/Machete. Use during the Spanish American War. Worth about 100 dollars. Now can anyone identify the bayonet? Thanks Bob
Woodymyster Posted December 7, 2014 Share #6 Posted December 7, 2014 Could you post a pic of the slot in the grip on the top? Might be a bayonet to carbine Sharps 53 model. -Woody

bheskett Posted December 7, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted December 7, 2014 I found a stamped B.H. near the muzzle ring on the flat side of the handle. Well that is something my initials are on and old blade:) Hope this helps. Thanks Again Bob
bayonetman Posted December 8, 2014 Share #9 Posted December 8, 2014 BH is Benjamin Hannis, goverment inspector. The bayonet is the Model 1862 for the Remington "Zouave" rifle. For some unknown to me reason, the rifle has always been called the Model 1863 when the contract was issued in 1862 and production was started in that year. http://www.nramuseum.org/the-museum/the-galleries/a-nation-asunder/case-37-arms-for-the-union-union-rifles,-a-northern-arms-factory/remington-model-1863-percussion-contract-rifle.aspx
