Why does it look so odd? It has what appears to be a bakelite grip on it

with the leather washers on top.

Is it just missing washers?

It is marled Ka-Bar Olean NY

They came in two flavors. A bright finished 6" blade with a fuller and a parkerized 6" blade with a saber grind, Looks a little like the big brother to the 1953 Pilots 5" fixed blade knife. In my neck of the woods the bright blade version is more common for some reason. In the recent past, a couple of years ago, it wasn't hard to pick up a good example for around $70. I know that prices vary with time and specific geography. But that should at least give an idea. They are well made IMHO. They usually come with some of the better made sheaths from the WW2 time period.

For what it's worth here's one currently on ebay # 221627315013. If you want to follow it, and get an idea of price range. SKIP
