Help with Blade stampings

Hi,

 

I recently purchased a 1902 sword with the The M.C. Lilly Company etching (as seen in the first image). What confuses me that it is different than other examples I have seen hear on the forum and other sites on the net. I am hoping that someone can tell me if the first image ( the block letters) is an earlyer example or later that the second image ( the fancier script) I can't find any reference on company logos and the dates they were used. I am trying to determine the age of the saber I purchased. Hopefully Sarge will coment on this. Thanks in advance.

The M.C.Lilley & Co. was active under this name from 1882 through 1925, according to Bezdek. It continued in existence but changed its name to "The Lilley Co." from 1925-1931, then to "The Lilley-Ames Co." after that. So, we can narrow your saber down to between 1902-1925. Frankly, I am not certain which logo template would be earlier of if they were used concurrently.

 

Perhaps others can narrow the logo template timeline down further.

I know this really probably will not help, but this is the logo on mine, which was purchased and given to the new officer on his graduation and commissioning in May, 1918.

Thank you both for yor replys and information. This is my first post, so excuse any mistakes in spelling or my lack of knowledge on this topic.

I usually collect WWII U.S. gear. This sword was just sommthing that I liked. Therefore I don't know much about it. It just puzzled me as to the difference in the marking style. It's probaby unimportant, but it sparks my curiosity. I have a tendency to research everthing I aquire. Once again thank you for the comments.
